Hunt NZ

Hunting in New Zealand is a popular tourist activity due to the wide variety of game animals as well as different kinds of terrain available. Kiwiaussie Hunting Safaris specializes in creating memorable hunting experiences for both experienced and novice hunters in New Zealand. We cater to hunters of all ages and fitness levels as well as for people with no previous experience with hunting or firearms

We hunt all of New Zealand’s free range game animals depending on the availability of certain species and other factors such as open seasons. Chamois, Tahr, Red Deer, Fallow Deer, Feral Goat, Wild Sheep, Wallaby and Wild Boar are the large species commonly hunted in New Zealand but we also facilitate small game “varminting” on Rabbits, Hares and Possum.

Game birds are hunted in season and include Californian Quail, Chukkah, Canadian Geese, Pheasant, Red Legged Partridge, Wild Turkey and Ducks of various species. Several of these species require licences to hunt and these can be arranged for each member of the party.

Firearms

Kiwiaussie Hunting Safaris has a wide range of firearms for our clients. Any .30 calibre rifle will be suitable for most hunts and you can expect shooting distances to be from 50 to 300 metres.

If you prefer to use your own firearms, you can purchase a Temporary Visitors Firearms License at NZ$25 which must be applied for at least a month before coming to New Zealand (apply online here). A permit to import firearms must be obtained from the New Zealand Police which can be applied online here. We are also able to assist with this application. Here is also more information on Visitor’s firearms licence and import permits.

Trophy Preparation and Shipping

Our services include the field preparation of trophies. We also assist with the export process and should you wish to have your trophies mounted before shipping, we can recommend excellent taxidermists. The cost of preparation and documentation for export and subsequent shipping varies.

Weather, Clothing & Footwear

New Zealand has a largely temperate but mild climate. It is blessed with an abundance of sunshine but its weather can change unexpectedly as cold fronts can blow in quickly. Generally warm winter and light waterproof clothing together with light waterproof leather walking boots are recommended during your hunts. Once you booked with us, we will provide you with comprehensive information on what you need to bring on your trip to New Zealand.

Visas & Insurance

Please check with your travel agent for visa requirements for entry to New Zealand. You should also make sure to have current medical and travel insurance.
